When are attenuation and soakaways services required?
Attenuation and soakaways are required to ensure rainwater is disposed of in accordance with local authorities’ hierarchy of surface water disposal.
What is an attenuation scheme?
Water is kept in an attenuation scheme and then gently released back into the sewer system using flow controls. Local planning authorities and specifiers have been under increasing legal pressure to adopt flood-prevention systems as a result of legislation. Instead of shifting the problem further down the watercourse, the goal is to create a system to deal with the flow at the source.
What is a soakaway scheme?
Soakaways are used to collect and store surface water run-off from hard surfaces like roofs and car parks, allowing for efficient infiltration into the soil. The soakaway size is determined by the calculated surface water volume against the infiltration capacity of soil.
