What are retaining walls?
Retaining walls are constructed to retain soil and stabilise slopes. They provide functional space on many levels, such as a patio, basement, or new structure. As experienced engineers, we design reinforced concrete walls where access to the site is not restricted and an area can be dug securely. Alternatively, we design plans for contiguous piled walls where sites are more constrained.
When are retaining walls required?
Retaining walls are required when there is a significant change in ground level. The retaining wall will act to support the change in level ensuring stability is maintained.
What types of retaining walls are available?
There are a range of retaining wall types available, the principal types include:
- Reinforced concrete retaining walls
- Piling retaining walls
- Gravity retaining walls
- Cantilever retaining walls
- Anchored retaining walls
